Jennifer W. Gatewood

JENNIFER W. GATEWOOD is an Associate at Ferruzzo.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College and her Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts.

Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Gatewood became a Staff Attorney and Director of Pro Bono at the Children’s Law Center of Massachusetts Inc., representing indigent children in abuse and neglect cases in the State Courts and in disputes with local School Districts regarding the provision of educational services under the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and related state statutes in administrative proceedings.  Ms. Gatewood relocated to Orange County, California in 2002, and has been practicing in the areas of civil and administrative litigation, with an emphasis in the areas of health care fraud and abuse, professional discipline, sexual harassment, and general business litigation.  In 2014, Ms. Gatewood became Senior Counsel, Litigation, of a large, international e-commerce retailer, before returning to private practice.

As a member of the Firm’s Employment Practices Group, Ms. Gatewood represents employers in transactional/compliance and litigation matters.  Having been an in-house attorney, Ms. Gatewood understands the various business pressures that employers face and leverages that experience to provide sound, practical advice to achieve her client’s business goals while simultaneously mitigating risk.  Ms. Gatewood counsels clients on the complexities of various human resource issues, such as hiring and terminating employees, consulting with independent contractors, job classification, leaves of absence, and layoffs, and also defends employers in litigation involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour, and related employment issues.
